Tree rings capture an unruly sun
Article by Associate Professor Mads Faurschou Knudsen in the journal Nature Geoscience.
Mads Faurschou Knudsen from the Department of Geoscience has published a news & views article in the journal Nature Geoscience, which discusses how carbon-14 can be used to determine the Sun's activity over the last 1000 years.
The article also discusses how the Sun's activity affects the Earth's climate as well as the occurrence of huge explosions on the Sun's surface. The explosions pose a threat to satellites and electrical infrastructure on Earth, but at the same time provide an opportunity to determine the age of archaeological materials with unprecedented accuracy.
