Forskningens Døgn på Aarhus Universitet

The ESP group presented Earth's Greatest Hits at Aarhus University's Festival of Research. ESP member Gry Barfod was interviewed and some of our presentation was featured on tvaarhus.dk's YouTube channel.

The theme for this year's Festival of Research was technology of the Future. The ESP group took a historical perspective on how technology has advanced our understanding of the Earth. We presented two fundamental tenets of earth science, (1) the age of the Earth, and (2) plate tectonics. The discovery of radioactive elements and the development of radiometric dating led to our accurate knowledge of the Earth's age (4.56 billion years). Sonar, first used during World War II, helped connect the idea of continental drift with seafloor spreading, ultimately establishing plate tectonic theory.
