During his studies, Thue Bording researched methods to determine the thermal properties of earth materials. Knowledge of the thermal properties of earth materials are important in a wide range geoscience fields, especially in regards to geothermal modelling. In order to obtain both thermal conductivity and thermal diffusivity, Thue Bording has revisited the two classical methods, the divided bar method and the needle probe method, both in which only the thermal conductivity is normally measured.

The new research findings contribute to the determination of thermal properties of earth materials. The methods developed are applicable to existing equipment at laboratories all over the world.

The PhD degree was completed at the Department of Geoscience, Science and Technology, Aarhus University.
