The main scope of the study was to investigate and discuss the interactions between the climate, the physical components of the peri-glacial landscape and the ecosystem. The project was based on field surveys during 2009 and 2010 and on data from the GeoBasis Research and Monitoring programme at Zackenberg Research Station. Ground penetrating radar (GPR) techniques were adapted to suit Arctic ecosystem components (the active layer, the snow pack, and the frozen lakes), and the GPR results were used to quantify and validate the physical and biotic interactions.
