GC-IRMS

The gas chromatograph (GC) isotope ratio mass spectrometer (IRMS) is used to measure compound specific carbon and hydrogen isotopes of biomarkers. The GC separates the compounds in a mixture, which are then converted to a measurable gas in either a combustion reactor (CO2) or a high temperature conversion reactor (H2). Gases are then introduced to the IRMS via a continuous flow device that handles carrier and reference gases.

The ThermoFisher Scientific GC-IRMS is comprised of a programmable temperature vaporizing (PTV) injector, TRACE GC 1610, GC IsoLink II, ConFlo IV University Interface, and DELTA Q IRMS equipped with the standard triple collector (CO2) and HD collector (H2).
