Tillykke Thorsten

Thorsten Nagel receives Eugen Seibold medal

Thorsten Nagel received the Eugen Seibold Medal for his article "Generation of Eoarchean tonalite-trondhjemite-granodiorite series from thickened mafic arc crust", published in the journal Geology in 2012. His article describes how the oldest continental crust on Earth, found in west Greenland, originated for approx. 3.8 billion years ago. His work investigated specifically whether the oldest crust occurred in a plate tectonic scenario, and his results have had a lasting impact on our understanding of the beginnings of plate tectonics.

The Eugen Seibold Medal is awarded annually to honor outstanding scientific achievements in the field of geoscience. The medal is awarded for a particularly excellent individual publication or a group of publications that must be a maximum of 10 years old. The medal is named after Professor Dr. Eugen Seibold (1918–2013), one of the most internationally known geoscientists in Germany.

Congratulations to Thorsten Nagel! We are thrilled to have you as part of the ESP team!
