REEBOX PRO version 1.1 available

REEBOX PRO 1.1, associated with our new paper in Earth and Planetary Science Letters, is now (December 2019) available for download for Mac, Mac Retina, and PC (see links below). This updated version includes the addition of KG1 pyroxenite melting, as well as a more flexible treatment of hydrous peridotite melting (the adiabat is no longer required to intersect the hydrous peridotite solidus, allowing for a wider range of water contents). The update also includes a number of bug fixes and optimizations that decrease computational time. We recommend previous REEBOX PRO users upgrade to version 1.1 to take advantage of these features.

Scroll down for full details about and resources for the program.

Note when downloading: You will be directed to a Google Drive webpage to download the installer.

Mac Retina (most modern Macs)

Mac (Non-Retina displays, typically older Macs)

Note for Mac users: If you receive a message saying that the installation application cannot be opened, simply ctrl-click (right-click) on the application and select "open".

PC

Note for PC users: If the user interface for REEBOX PRO looks distorted (e.g. only 2 or three of the isotope entries are showing on the main program interface), then you will need to change the screen magnification used by Windows.  To do this, go to the start menu, select "Settings" (cog icon in windows 10), select “System”, select “Display”, and move the slider bar beneath “Change the size of text, apps, and other items: 125% (recommended)" to the left to make the magnification 100%. You may need to log out of windows and re-login (so save your work) to get this to take effect. Relaunch REEBOX and you should be set to go.

NOTE: When using model outputs, keep in mind that REEBOX PRO uses American number formatting (i.e. one thousand is output as 1,000, and three and a half is output as 3.5).

REEBOX PRO

REEBOX PRO is a compiled stand-alone application for Mac and PC that simulates adiabatic decompression melting of passively or actively upwelling mantle containing up to five distinct lithologies (anhydrous peridotite, hydrous peridotite, harzburgite, G2 pyroxenite, and MIX1G pyroxenite).

The program takes as inputs user-specified values for mantle potential temperature, plate half-spreading rate, and abundance and initial trace element (Rb, Ba, Th, U, Nb, K, La, Ce, Pb, Pr, Sr, Nd, Sm, Zr, Hf, Eu, Ti, Gd, Dy, Y, Er, Yb, and Lu) and isotopic (87Sr/86Sr, 143Nd/144Nd, 176Hf/177Hf, and 206Pb/204Pb) compositions for the five lithologies. Model outputs include the compositions of all melts generated from all lithologies (including all instantaneous melts, all column accumulated melts, and pooled melts) as well as the composition and thickness of the bulk igneous crust derived by mixing all generated melts.

Details and benchmarks of the model and a user's guide are presented by Brown and Lesher (Geochemistry Geophysics Geosystems).

Mac (Non-Retina displays)

Mac Retina To check if you have a Retina display, select "About This Mac" under the Apple icon in the upper-left corner of your screen.

Safari users: We have noticed that Safari will not download the installer when running High Sierra (OS 10.13). Use Chrome or Firefox instead. (May 2018)
