Abstract:

Medical geology is the new science dealing with the impacts of our natural environment-geology on human and animal health. This was started in Sweden in 2006 and has now spread all over the world. It requires a close collaboration between geoscientists-medical scientists-biologists and other scientists. The background and development will be discussed and some striking examples on how geoscientists and medical scientists in working together can solve difficult health problems around the world. Both excess and deficiency will be mentioned. Emphasis will also be put on the Nordic countries, including Denmark, with some examples. Also Iodine will be discussed because of the iodine dissertation later the same day.
